Aaron Seymour
(b. 1982, Boorloo, Perth) is a multidisciplinary artist, curator and cultural producer whose practice is grounded in research-led inquiry, material experimentation, and culturally situated storytelling. He holds a Master of Fine Arts from Curtin University (2023) and a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts – Painting) from Edith Cowan University (2003).
Seymour’s early career was shaped by sustained engagement with artist-run initiatives, curatorial practice, and large-scale cultural events in Western Australia. Between 2003–2008, he was actively involved in the emerging artist and underground music scenes through The Community, a grassroots collective fostering cross-disciplinary exchange. During this period, he held key professional roles including Exhibition Manager at Free Range Studios & Gallery and Principal Artist Liaison for Semi-Permanent and Artrage, contributing to exhibition development, artist support, and public program delivery within major cultural festivals.
Alongside his professional practice, Seymour initiated several artist-led platforms, notably MD Limited Editions, a zine series documenting emerging artistic practices, and The Instrument Hip Hop Hub, a multi-use creative space supporting experimental and community-driven cultural production. These projects reflect an ongoing commitment to infrastructure-building, peer-led learning, and access within the arts.
As an artist, Seymour has exhibited and performed nationally and internationally at institutions and venues including New Paltz State University (New York), Carriageworks, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (P.I.C.A.), Stala Contemporary, Whitespace, Gallery Central, Spectrum Project Space, ArtistRE, Artrage Festival, The Bakery / Breadbox Gallery, Free Range Studios Gallery, and at Curtin and Edith Cowan Universities.
From 2009–2018, Seymour was based in Melbourne, where he worked extensively in the live music and festival sectors as an event and artist manager, representing established domestic and international artists. This period consolidated his expertise in complex project management, stakeholder engagement, touring logistics, and cross-sector collaboration.
Since returning to Western Australia, Seymour has re-centred his artistic practice through sustained research into his Burmese cultural heritage. His current body of work spans painting, jewellery and sculptural forms, employing material-led methodologies to examine themes of lineage, migration, memory, and postcolonial identity. His practice operates at the intersection of personal history and broader cultural narratives, positioning making as both a reflective and critical research process.
Aaron Seymour is currently the Gallery and Exhibition Manager at DADAA, where he works across curatorial programming, exhibition delivery, artist development and access-led cultural practice.
"The process of designing through to crafting has deepened my emotional and spiritual ties to Myanmar, enabling me to connect personal stories to current and past cultural and political events. I hope to further explore how Burmese art, culture and history can be valued in contemporary art practice, and how these stories can take different forms of human interaction."
